People of Independence
The York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs sees the value in individuals with special needs receiving training and support in advocating for their own needs within their home community. In 2006, grant funding was obtained from the South Carolina DD Council and “People of Independence” was initiated.
People of Independence meets on the third Wednesday at 4:30 PM at the Boyd Hill Center in Rock Hill, SC. The meetings are run by program participants with some assistance from YCBDSN staff mentors. Membership is free and the meetings are open to any York County adult individual with a special need who wishes to attend.
